Who is Lapu-Lapu?
Lapu-Lapu is the name of the chieftain of the native Philippinos who is told to have killed the Portuguese captain Ferdinand Magellan in a battle between the natives and the Spanish colonial soldiers on Mactan island in April 27, 1521. Therefore Lapu-Lapu is regarded as the first National hero of the Philippines.
Beside this the Philippinos don't take this too serious. A tasty fish living in the sea around Mactan island is also called Lapu-Lapu by the natives.
I lived and worked in the Philippines in 1997 and 1998 - a wonderful country with very kind people - that's why Lapu-Lapu is my nick for Geocaching.
