Background (Wikipedia)
On March 3rd 1972 Pioneer 10 spacecraft was launched from Cpmplex 36 Cape Caneveral. Between July 15, 1972, and February 15, 1973, it became the first spacecraft to traverse the asteroid belt.
Imaging of Jupiter began November 6, 1973, at a range of 25 million km, and a total of more than 500 images were transmitted.
One year later after lauch of the twin probe Pioneer 10, the Pioneer 11 mission startet to study the asteroid belt, the environment around Jupiter and Saturn, solar wind, cosmic rays, and eventually the far reaches of the solar system and heliosphere. It was the first probe to encounter Saturn and the second to fly through the asteroid belt and by Jupiter. Due to power constraints and the vast distance of the probe, communication has been lost since November 30, 1995.
On both spacecrafts Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 a gold-anodized plaque were installed. The plaques show the nude figures of a human male and female along with several symbols that are designed to provide information about the origin of the spacecraft to extraterristical creatures.
Following exactly this idea the Geocoin "Geocacher Plaque" has been designed, in order to provide information about Geocachers and Geocaching on Earthin to alien creatures.
The Geocoin is available as always with different platings.
With the version "Black Nickel" and the two-tone version ""Black Nickel - Polished Gold" you can put on your individual message
to extraterristical muggles.
