Chrstopher Columbus was an italian explorer and navigator under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain. Although he was not the first European explorer who reached America (Leif Eriksson was there 500 years before), Kolumbus is known as the explorer of the New World.
Actual on the expedition for a direct (westward) sea connection between Europe and East-Asia, he started his voyage on 03th August 1492 with his flag ship "Santa Maria" and some other boats. On 12th October 1492 he finally reached the "New World".
After his exploration the the conquest and colonization started, so it was a very important event in the history.
